Defining 30

Hi there! After my birthday post went vIrAl (read: I am soooo kidding. Thanks for all the birthday love!) I wanted to come back on and continue the theme of talking about what I want to get out of my first year of my 30s.

Birthdays for me often feel like the true start to the year and I feel particularly inspired to set new goals in the Spring time. So I spent some time brainstorming my goals and thought I'd pop on to talk about them for posterity and accountability sake.

First up is my word of the year which is Movement. The last year of my 20s moved at a chaotic and joyful pace, but it wasn't necessarily intentional. I planned a wedding and then, just 3 months later, got a new job; joyful but chaotic. This year, I want to lay the groundwork for a year of thought-out movement towards my goals. I think it is the perfect guiding word because it can represent movement that is as slow or as fast as I need it to. It can even be in the wrong direction. The only point is to not stay standing still locked in a pattern of indecision. Movement is the antithesis to idleness, stagnation, and inaction all of which can describe the majority of the last decade that I am ready to leave behind.

As for my goals, I actually only have 4 of them:

  1. Read more. Which I wrote about here.

  2. Improve my skills as a writer. Which I also happened to write about here.

  3. Build a more consistent relationship with God. This one is likely a lifelong stretch goal, but in the immediate my hope is to become more familiar with scripture and studying each book of the Bible. I've found a few resources that will guide me through, so I'm looking forward to applying focus to this area in earnest.

  4. Start a business. This goal has been growing legs since I started working a regular 9-5 job almost 7 years ago. I've danced around a few ideas but nothing solid has materialized for a multitude of reasons the major one being I have no idea what I want to do. So I'm taking this year to hone in on what I have to offer because despite what the little self-doubt demons have to say, I've got value!

And that's that...for now. Talk soon!
