Blogmas Day 2 - My 2026 Reading Plans

IMG_0013

While I didn’t write nearly as much as I planned to this year, I unexpectedly fell back in love with another hobby that I used to enjoy: reading. I went from reading 60 books a year to about 12 a year, which isn’t to say that’s an improper amount to read (there’s already enough literary supremacy floating around the internet and I don’t intend to add to it). I just know that for me, reading has always been something I enjoyed and did often and when I began to read less and less every year, I began to worry it was a skill that was going to be hard to rebuild.

But this year I found my way back and read 4 books over the course of 2 weeks. It was the fastest I had read in years and it officially unlocked my love of reading. So to create some guardrails and generate some excitement for next year, here are my reading goals for next year.

Take down my physical TBR

I haven’t bought many physical books this year because my shelves are small and I haven’t actually picked up any of the books I’ve bought. So for next year, I’m going to challenge myself to read every physical book on my shelf and unhaul any books that I won’t be coming back to. If you read between the lines here, you'll see it's just a ploy to buy more books.

Read at least 5 writing craft books

I have bought a LOT of books on the writing craft despite, you know, not writing much. So I’m going to read and apply the information I’ve learned from at least 5 craft books. This should be easy since becoming a better writer is like my primary focus next year.

Participate in at least 2 reading challenges

The bookstagram creators are so creative! I’ve saved several reading challenges that sounded interesting. Plus, with some curated prompts to pick from, it should be a lot easier to put a dent in my TBR.

Join a book club

Specifically for the community. Even though I have a billion books to get through on my own list, I figure for the moments when nothing sounds interesting, reading a book that will be talked about with others will keep me in the habit of consistently reading.

That’s all…for now. I’m prone to changing my mind so these goals might shrink or get very specific. We’ll see!

See you tomorrow!
